Weather report: Temperature in the high 20s. As I left Beelitz, the sun was shining. It was a beautiful start of the morning. Later in the day the clouds returned. No snow, no rain.
Meaningful Moment
Deciding to take a cheat day. You will read below, but I need a day off. Highly unusual for me on a Camino, but it's true.
So tomorrow I will take the train from here to Wittenberg, arriving early enough to take in some of the sights there.
Rewarding myself with a great Greek food dinner at one of the restaurants in town.
Random Thought of the Day
My body is complaining, and I'm not sure why.
I trained before I left Rochester. In comparable weather.
I did pick up a sinus infection that kicked in full on yesterday.
There has been a lot of pavement on days one and two, but yesterday and today was much more farm and forest soft trails.
And yet, neither explains how I completely " ran out of gas". In fact, I was hurting.
A good reason for a cheat day.
And I just got around to checking the weather for tomorrow. When I would have started hiking, it would have been in the high teens and in the low 20s all day.
That would not have been fun or enjoyable.
In fact had I not had body issues today, once I saw those temperatures, I would have made it cheat day anyway.
On the Road / Notable memories
Starting the day with breakfast at the hotel. I expect to walk about 12 mi today.
It was a day for pictures of churches.
Okay, so getting lost in the nature park at the end added in about a mile or so.
The GPS track was completely off. Although I was on the track, there absolutely was no trail.
I was bushwhacking through the forest. Finally, I saw one point where I was near the road, and I said to myself," to hell with this ". I think it added at least an hour to my hiking today.
Now that I finally reached town, and I've decided tomorrow is a cheat day, I also decided to treat myself to a really nice Greek meal here.
I have a strong feeling this is going to be another night where it's really early to bed.
By 8:00 p.m. I was on the couch in my flat. With the TV on for background noise to Sky News, I fell asleep. Woke up long enough to do some chores, and now I'm back on the couch 🙂
Sun this morning, what a miracle!
