Leaving Martha's behind. Had four good nights here. Good staff. Good room. Good location.


The S9 rapid transit train arrives 2 minutes to take me to Berlin's Templehof airport. 
This vacation is coming to an end.

On the Road / Notable memories

4:15 a.m. Awake
4:45 a.m. Leave Martas Gästehäuse.
5:00 a.m. Quiet, peaceful lovely walk to the Hauptbahnhof ( main train station )
5:25 a.m. Train arrives.
6:15 a.m. Arrive Templehof Berlin airport.
6:30 a m. United lines open.
6:45 a.m. Baggage drop completed.
7:15 a.m. Through security checkpoint and having a croissant and coffee.
7:55 a.m. Gate assignment posted.
8:15 a.m. Through United screening point. At gate.
9:25 a.m. Boarded plane.
10:45 a.m. Take off for Newark. Late 45 minutes due to de-icing.

It's because of the de-icing need, we were 40 minutes delayed on takeoff

Up up and away

Auf wiedersehen, Deutschland

2:00 p.m. Arrive Newark, 45 minutes late. United has already rebooked me onto the 10:00 p.m. flight to Rochester.
2:05 p.m. You got to love Global Entry program. Through immigration control in literally one minute.
2:30 p.m. Backpack comes in to the carousel.
2:35 p.m. Using the CBP MPC, which I believe stands for Customs and Border Patrol mobile passport app, I also cleared customs in less than a minute.
2:40 p.m. Back rechecked with United. Confirmed that a tag on my backpack has been updated to reflect my new arrivals time in Rochester.
2:50 p.m. Arrived Terminal C by mistake as United changed me to Terminal A for my new flight.
3:00 p.m. Have to go back through the TSA checkpoint in Terminal C.
3:25 p.m. Catching the shuttle bus over to Terminal A.
3:40 p.m. In Terminal A having a beer. I've got 5 and 1/2 hours to kill before boarding begins.
9:30 p.m. Boarding. Spent the last hour in some pleasant chit chat and conversation with a man headed to New Orleans.
10:00 p.m. Taxiing.
11:10 p.m. Back in Rochester, NY. It was a successful trip.

I don't know how to phrase it.  It brought both a smile and a regret to the fore. I smiled because I instantly remembered the best of the person, and regret because I realized that I will not build another common memory with them. In the last twelve months, I have attended four memorial services for U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary members with whom I served. (Mike B, John B, Bob C & now Ann P). Many of the Lutheran churches have a Catholic basis and so they have the iconography.
