Today's trail
Meaningful Moment
I thought of a lot of old memories and events while I was in the forest today.
In the entirety of the 11 or 12 mi, I never saw another soul.
Once I saw some footprints, but I never saw the owner.
I thought about some old friends and I thought about some new possibilities for me.
I thought of the losses and I thought of the gains.
Random Thought of the Day
I really liked that it was a warm 30° f. Since I have good gear, that is a great temperature for me to hike in during the winter.
On the Road / notable memories
Had my first hills today. Not in shape for them LOL. The first hill was a long slow steady climb. Not too bad. The second hill was much steeper, and I kept needing to catch my breath.
This entire hike up until this point has been amazingly flat.
Leaving Lubast. We had a covering of snowfall last night.
Entering the Dubener Heide Forest preserve. The vast majority of today's hike will be through this preserve.
About 1 mile in and going strong
About 4 mi in now. The most time I've had for self-reflection since I started this trip.
Snack break around mile 6
7 miles on and not giving up. The road cuts through the park but was a very insignificant part of my day.
Mile 10 and not tiring yet
The end of the preserve around mile 11
There were many more wood sculptures in this park, but these are the ones that I thought were most interesting.
The transportation workers and farmers strike continues. Today they were demonstrating in Bad Düben.
My way out of town tomorrow. The pilgrim's path crosses the bridge over the river Mulda.
Eierkuchen with vanilla ice cream and cherries.
It translates as pancake, but I would have said crepe.
After a hard day of hiking and laundry and shopping, it's time for dessert.
